New York: The Indo-Czech pair of Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy reached the second round in men's doubles after winning a cliff-hanger against Romanian pair of Victor Hanescue and Grabriel Trifu in the US Open tennis tournament at Flushing Meadows on Tuesday.
Paes and Dlouhy, seeded fourth, won the match 7-6 (11), 7-6 (4) in 1 hour 47 minutes. The pair had finished runners up last year.
In the singles event on Monday Somdev Devvarman in the men's section and Sania Mirza in the women's advanced into the second round of singles event.
Following their wins Somdev and Sania became the first man and woman from India to reach the second round of the same Grand Slam event.
While Sania defeated Olga Govortsova of Belarus 6-2, 3-6, 6-3; Devvarman beat Portugal's Frederico Gil 6-3, 6-4, 6-3.
Mahesh Bhupathi of India and Knowles of Bhahmas face American James Cerretani and Lovro Zovko of Croatia in the men's doubles first round.
