New Delhi: Amidst the war of words between India and Pakistan over the nationality of arrested Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist Usman Khan alias Mohammad Naved, a resident from across the border has claimed to be his father.
Speaking to CNN-IBN, the man, Mohammad Yakub identified Naved as his son and claimed life threat from terror group LeT and "fauj" (Pakistani Army). He added that the family was "troubled with the developments" and Usman's arrest in India.
The man spoke in Punjabi, which is the language spoken in Faisalabad area of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, intelligence sources said that while the LeT operative has been arrested, the mastermind of the Udhampur ambush, in which two Border Security Force personnel were killed, continues to be at large in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said Abu Qasim is one of the handlers of Usman. Qasim operates in south Kashmir and he managed to escape the arrest on June 9 from security agencies.
According to security agencies, Qasim has been in Kashmir for the last two-three years. He planned the attack on BSF convoy, and help Usman and his associate Momin, who was killed by BSF during the encounter, carry it out. Qasim told them that one of them should attack the bus first by puncturing its tyres and the other one should strike from an elevated ground or hillock, said sources.
Sources added that Qasim is also a LeT trained terrorist involved in infiltration of new recruits and getting them trained at LeT camps.
According to sources, Usman infiltrated with arms, ammunition and sophisticated weapons not only for himself but for the person whom he reported to immediately after coming to Srinagar.
Top intelligence sources said LeT module has changed completely. Now fidayeen (suicide attackers) infiltrate and they are being aided by local modules on ground.
Earlier, a report in the Hindustan Times had also said that a Pakistan-based man has identified himself as Usman's father and fears for his life. Mohammad Yakub said, "Lashkar is after us and the fauj is after us."
Usman has also reportedly disclosed his father's phone number to interrogators.
On Thursday, Usman had pointed at some new information concerning cross-border terrorism. Apart from revealing new routes being accessed by terrorists, the attack in Udhampur, subsequently leading to Usman's arrest, shows how the terrorists are striking at places that have not been the usual targets.
According to sources in the investigating agencies, his interrogation has yielded a lot of information on cross border terrorism.
Here's what the Udhampur attack and Usman's arrest have revealed:
1. New areas for crossing the border and attacks have been identified by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).
2. LeT trainers told the terrorists that routine routes are fully guarded by security forces and that they should avoid them.
3. Places like Udhampur and Gurdaspur feature in the new list of Pakistan based terrorists.
4. New motivation being given by LeT is to attack only security forces. This gives strong message for new recruitment and motivation.
5. Attacking convoy of security forces means more casualties also.
6. Before attacking the BSF on Wednesday, proper reccee was done by Usman and his accomplice.
7. Full plan was made to attack the tyre of a van first.
