Jammat leaders address rallies in Lahore openly.

Lahore: Pakistan's claims of having cracked down on terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Toiba's front Jamaat-ud-Dawa after the group was banned last month are false.

Leaders of Jamaat have been seen addressing a protest rally in Lahore and reports now say the Jamaat is now back to business under a new name.

A month after the Pakistan government claimed it had shut down the Jamaat-ud Dawa and put its leadership under arrest - many were seen at a rally in Lahore protesting Israeli strikes in Gaza.

Even as Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief of the Hafeez Saeed's detention was extended on Friday for two months, his key assistants like Hafiz Saif Ullah and Maulana Munawar Hassan, continue to operate openly.

Both Ullah and Hassan were seen at the public rally in Lahore addressing their supporters.

It has also been confirmed that Jamaat, which was banned on December 10 after a United Nations Security Council resolution is now operating under a new name - Tehreek-e-Tahafuz Qibla Awal that invited people to the rally.

The lack of restrictions on the banned group is already drawing comment within the country:

In a report the national daily The News called the government's measures against the Jamaat "half-hearted"

The steps taken so far by the government "merely give an illusion of compliance with the restrictions ", the report said, adding that the group's flag still flies over its headquarters in Muridke, and the Jamaat continues to run its schools and charities.

The video of the Jamaat leaders, along with Allama Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, a known supporter of the Taliban, are nailing the government's lie and the promises made to the UN and the international community.

It is also adding another flip-flop to a long line of failures in the Pakistani government's proclamations of bringing those guilty of the Mumbai attacks to justice.
