HYDERABAD: Slain TDP leader Paritala Ravi’s close aide Dudekula Chaman, who went underground since 2005, surrendered before the director general of police V Dinesh Reddy here on Tuesday. Police produced him before the magistrate and he was remanded to judicial custody till August 9. Later, he was shifted to Charlapalli central prison.Chaman was involved in several criminal cases across the state including twin cities. As many as 22 cases were pending against him. Chaman is the second follower of Paritala Ravi to surrender after Pothula Suresh. Chaman was shifted to Punjagutta police station soon after his surrender as most of the cases in which he was involved were being dealt by the Punjagutta police. Chaman was also involved in several land-grabbing cases in the city and three arrest warrants have been issued on him in the past.He was also involved in attack on Congress worker Gangadhar during 2004 Assembly elections at Nagasamudram.Chaman, who went underground after Paritala was shot dead, had reportedly approached the Anantapur police two days back and tipped them that he would surrender before the Hyderabad police. Chaman is a native of Kothapalli village of Ramagiri mandal in Anantapur district. “I gave up myself before the police with an interest to live independently in the society,’’ he told newsmen after his surrender.
