KOCHI: The body of P C Alexander, former Governor of Maharashtra and principal secretary to former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, was laid to rest with state honours on Saturday. Thousands from all the walks of life paid their last respects to the departed soul.It was on Thursday that Alexander who was undergoing treatment for cancer died.The body was brought to Puthiyakavu, his home village in Mavelikkara, from Kochi at 9.30 am on Saturday. Then the body was taken to Padinjarethalackal, the place where his house was situated, in a procession. Catholicos Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II led the funeral services at the St Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral at Puthiyakavu.Union Minister of State for Power K C Venugopal, Assembly Speaker G Karthikeyan, Kerala Ministers Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and Shibu Baby John, Chief Whip P C George, Maharashtra Health Minister Suresh Shetty, P J Kurien MP, Anto Antony MP, P C Vishnunath MLA and R Rajesh MLA were among the thousands who attended the funeral services.Alappuzha District Collector P Venogopal laid a wreath on the body on behalf of the state government.
