New Delhi: The one thing that has been and remains consistent in Amitabh Bachchan's acting career is his wife Jaya Bachchan. In 1969, Amitabh Bachchan made his debut with the film Saat Hindustani and was awarded with the National Film Award for Best Newcomer. However, his next few films didn't do much at the box-office, resulting in most heroines refusing to co-star with the actor.
Meanwhile, Jaya Bachchan (then Bhaduri) had made her mark in the industry with films like Guddi, Uphaar, Bawarchi and Anamika to name a few. In 1973, Prakash Mehra casted Amitabh Bachchan in a film that was to become a turning point for the actor. After pairing up in films like Bansi Birju and Ek Nazar that were more or less declared flops, the top actress of the time, Jaya Bachchan took a leap of faith and agreed to work with Amitabh Bachchan in Jha's Zanjeer.
With this Amitabh Bachchan had arrived and how. In 1973, the two tied the knot and Jaya Bachchan gradually faded from the film industry after giving birth to their first child, Shweta. Even though the time span that the duo worked together was short-lived, they had given some of the most memorable performances of the Indian cinema – Abhimaan, Mili, Sholay and Silsila.
On Amitabh Bachchan's 70th birthday, we've picked out ten songs picturised on the Bachchans to refresh your memories.
