A huge fire broke out in the Puttingal temple in Kerala's Kollam district on Sunday morning leaving at least 86 people dead and more than 300 injured. According to the police, the fire broke out at around 3:30 AM after blast in the fireworks stockpile kept in a store for temple celebrations. The rescue operations are reportedly over and the injured are being treated at nearby hospitals.
Reactions on the tragic incident have been pouring in since morning. Leaders cutting across various political parties and celebrities have expressed solidarity over the loss of life in the incident and prayed for the speedy recovery of injured.
"Fire at temple in Kollam is heart-rending & shocking beyond words. My thoughts are with families of the deceased & prayers with the injured," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in tweet.
He is also going to the incident site to take stock of the situation.
