New Delhi: BBC's popular game show 'Mastermind' returns to India as "Disney Q: The Family Mastermind". However, this time it is not about individuals, but involves the entire family.
Hosted by Benjamin Gilani, the show will see families competing for the title of India's smartest family.
"Disney has always tried to provide family entertainment shows and we have seen success with many of our fiction shows like 'Suite Life of Karan and Kabir' and 'Best of Luck Nikki'. So we thought what could be the next innovative step that would appeal to our viewers," said Devika Prabhu, director-programming, Kids Network, Disney-UTV.
"We realised that families like to watch knowledge-based shows, so we decided why not introduce an element where the entire family can play," she added.
The new format will see the family's youngest child leading the team.
"We have different rounds in the show. In the first round, the child takes the lead and answers questions, in the second the family's general knowledge is put to test and in the third the child would nominate a family member who would answer all the questions," she said.
Prabhu said that the fourth round would include the whole family, but it has been tweaked a little bit - there will be negative marking for each wrong answer.
The previous season of "Mastermind India" was hosted by quiz master Siddharth Basu in 1999-2000. However, Myleeta Aga, general manager and creative head - BBC Worldwide Productions wouldn't call it a second season and said that "Disney Q: The Family Mastermind" is a completely new format.
"We wouldn't say that this is a second season of the show. It is a completely fresh version ... It is a show through which the whole family dynamics come to the fore. The entire set of the show is quite intimidating and it is likely to put some pressure on the families," Aga added.
