Lucknow: Two applications were filed on Monday before the three-judge bench of the Lucknow High Court seeking postponement of the Ayodhya verdict.
One application seeks the case to be settled through arbitration. The other, seeking a postponement, has been filed by a group of six prominent persons of Lucknow comprising a multi-faith group.
It seeks a postponement of the verdict in public interest given concerns over a violent backlash. It says that any arsenal and violence after the court verdict could it bring bad name to the country.
The petitioners have also said that retirement of one of the judges, Justice DB Sharma who would retire by September end, cannot be an excuse for delivering the judgement. They petitioners have prayed that in the past many judges who are about to retire have been given extension.
The verdict on the case is expected be read out on September 24.
The application says that the security forces are stretched with deployment in Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, flood relief, elections in Bihar and for Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
