KOCHI: A novel initiative to equip government hospitals in Kerala with clean potable water facilities was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Prof K V Thomas.  The minister handed over the first two filter units  to the General Hospital here in the presence of Ernakulam MLA Hibi Eden and District Collector Sheik Pareeth.The pilot project to install seven drinking water filters at six locations of government or taluk hospitals in the district is implemented by Kochi-based NGO Kite Life Foundation with the financial support of Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages.The units were specially designed and supplied by Eureka Forbes. As part of the pilot project, two units have been installed at the Government General Hospital, Ernakulam, one unit each at the Women and Children Hospital at Mattanchery; taluk hospital at Fort Kochi; Maharajas Hospital at Karuvelipady, Government taluk hospital in Aluva and Government taluk hospital in North Paravur.In the next phase, Kite Life Foundation will commission potable water in government hospitals in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode.
