Pune Police Arrest Women's Gang Exploiting Elderly, Sub-inspector Allegedly Orchestrated Scheme
A 64-year-old man filed a complaint with Pune Police, alleging that he had been ensnared in a honey trap by the gang.

In a disturbing development from Pune, police have arrested a gang of women accused of specifically targeting elderly individuals for financial exploitation. The gang reportedly lured their victims through phone calls and subsequently stole their assets. The case took a dramatic turn when it was revealed that a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) from Maharashtra, namely Kashinath Maruti, was orchestrating the honeytrap scheme. Upon learning of the women’s arrest, the PSI absconded, and a search is currently underway to locate him.

The case came to light when a 64-year-old man filed a complaint with Pune Police, alleging that he had been ensnared in a honey trap by the gang, leading to substantial financial losses. Following a raid, police apprehended three women connected to the scheme. One of the arrested individuals was also found to have been demanding a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from a doctor in Kolhapur’s Shahupuri police station area.

The elderly man recounted that Alka, one of the women he had met, had called him twice asking for money for medical treatment, claiming she was ill. On Monday afternoon, Alka invited him to a lodge at Talkies Chowk, stating she wanted to return the money. Believing she might be genuine, he agreed to meet her. However, upon arriving at the lodge, two other women and a man appeared. They identified themselves as members of the Women’s Rights Committee and began threatening him, slapping him and threatening to file a molestation case against Alka. During this, Alka started crying.

Following this, the group demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh from the elderly man. After some negotiation, he agreed to pay Rs 3 lakh. However, the women continued to extort him. They extracted Rs 20,000 from his pocket and took him to an ATM, attempting to withdraw Rs 60,000 from his account. Unfortunately, the elderly man entered the wrong PIN, preventing the withdrawal. They then took him to a jeweller’s shop, where they removed and sold all his rings.

The ongoing investigation uncovered that the gang had been systematically targeting elderly victims, exploiting their reluctance to report such crimes due to embarrassment or fear of reputational damage.
