PWC Davidar named as Corporation Commissioner

CHENNAI: PWC Davidar has been named as the new Chennai Corporation Commissioner.Asked about his priorities as the commissioner, Davidar said, “Let me first complete the protocol of assuming charge. I shall announce my plans on Thursday.” Davidar entered the Indian Administrative Service in 1986 after teaching political science in Madras Christian College for five years.He has a degree in Commerce and Masters in Public Administration from the college.He completed his Masters in Development Studies at the Institute of Social Studies at The Hague, Netherlands.Davidar served in several positions in the State and headed the departments of Handlooms and Textiles, Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, Backward Classes Rehabilitation and, most recently, has been the Special Secretary, Health, handling a `600-crore World Bank Project that was focused on upgrading 270 secondary hospitals across the State.Davidar also had an eventful stint as Special Officer, Bonded Labour Abolition, for a five-year period as a special assignment and was involved in rescue and rehabilitation of bonded labourers both from other States as well as within the State.He was deeply involved in the development of IT applications as the Madurai Corporation Commissioner.Davidar had also served as the Collector of Vellore district, Secretary of Information Technology Department and Chairman of Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT).
