Railway bribery: BJP protests against CBI DIG
A CBI inspector had filed a complaint in the Central Administrative Tribunal that the CBI DIG delayed the raid at Singla's residence, giving him time to destroy evidence.

Chandigarh: A group of BJP activists on Monday held a demonstration outside the Central Bureau of Investigation office in Chandigarh protesting against alleged involvement of CBI DIG Mahesh Agarwal in deliberately delaying the raid at Pawan Kumar Bansal's nephew Vijay Singla's residence.

Balbir Singh, a CBI inspector had filed a complaint in the Central Administrative Tribunal that the CBI DIG delayed the raid at Singla's residence, giving him time to destroy evidence.

However, the CBI clarified that there is no enquiry into any allegations of delay. Mahesh Agarwal has also denied the allegations.

Meanwhile, a Delhi court on Saturday dismissed the bail plea of an accused in the Rs 10 crore railway bribery case. Special CBI Judge Swarana Kanta Sharma rejected the bail plea of Dharmender Kumar after CBI contended that his release could adversely affect probe which was in initial stages.

Dharmedra along with co-accused Vivek Kumar had allegedly delivered Rs 90 lakh, part of the Rs 10 crore bribe amount, to Bansal's nephew Vijay Singla in Chandigarh to get a plum post for a Railway Board official.

Bansal was forced to quit as railway minister earlier in May 2013 after a bribery controversy surrounding his nephew Vijay Singla.

The CBI arrested Singla May 3, 2013 and recovered Rs 90 lakh from him, which was allegedly paid to him by a senior railway officer to get a lucrative posting.
