Credit card usage is on the rise globally, with millions of customers worldwide using their cards to buy goods worth billions of dollars each year. The World of Statistics reports that Canada leads in credit card usage, with 82.74 percent of its population utilising credit cards. What is the most expensive thing that you have bought using a credit card? At the most, your answer may be a car, but the following piece of news will baffle you. A man in Canada once hogged all the limelight after purchasing an entire skyscraper using his credit card. Canadian billionaire Jonathan Wener bought the building of Royal Trust Credit Card Company using his credit card. In a recent interview with Big Shot, a YouTube channel focused on investing and finance, Jonathan Wener shared the story of how he once purchased an entire building using a credit card. The story dates back to 1975 when Wener launched his real estate business, Canderel, with a $10,000 loan (equivalent to about Rs 46,48,000 today).

At one point, Wener decided to buy the building housing the Royal Trust Credit Card company in Montreal, which cost $65 million (Rs 5,395,000,000). In an unconventional move, Wener chose to pay the bill with a gold credit card from Royal Trust. According to him, this decision earned him a 2 percent discount.

Wener mentioned that the card he was using offers a 1 percent discount on purchases and allows him 30 days to settle the bill, which also amounts to a 1 percent benefit. Consequently, he earned a profit of 1.3 million dollars. This purchase might be the most expensive documented credit card buy ever.
