Rameswaram temple cloak room turns unsafe as devotees lose belongings
Police said they were questioning the temple employees in-charge of the cloak room.

Rameswaram: Several devotees, including those on their annual pilgrimage to the Lord Ayyappa temple, have lost their belongings, including mobile phones, kept in the cloak room at the famous Sri Ramanathaswamy temple here, police said on Friday.

Devotees who did not want to stay in the temple cottages in view of the "horrible condition" left their valuables in the cloak room. But several of them found their belongings missing.

On a complaint from the devotees, police were shocked to find that the cloak room did not have proper locks one key opened all the chest boxes.

Police said they were questioning the temple employees in-charge of the cloak room. In the last one week alone, around 30 mobile phones had been stolen from the cloak room, police said.

Temple Executive officer C Selvaraj assured to change the locks of chest boxes in the cloak room soon. Till then, devotees would be asked to use their own lock.
