THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a shocking incident, a 14-year-old boy and his 55-year-old accomplice were arrested by the city police on Wednesday for allegedly raping a mentally challenged 24-year-old woman. The woman was subjected to the ordeal by the teenager and his accomplice, one Jayakumar, on Tuesday afternoon in the bathroom of Sahodara Samajam Hall at Uppidamoodu. Jayakumar, the watchman of Sahodara Samajam, was acquainted with the boy. The victim, belonging to Kallattumukku, Konchiravila, had left home on Tuesday around 11.30 am after a quarrel with her mother. When she was roaming at Kallattumukku Junction, the boy, who was coming to the city, sensing the situation the woman was in, lured her into an auto. “He was coming on a cycle. But when he met the woman, he left the cycle at the junction, lured her and took her in an auto to the Samajam. Jayakumar provided all the help. Later, he also raped her,” said S Y Suresh, Circle Inspector, Fort. The police had launched a search for the woman following a complaint from her mother that she was missing. They could trace the boy with the information they got from the local people of Kallattumukku who had noticed him taking the woman in an auto. “His school bag was there in the cycle which he had abandoned, and the address we got from his book proved crucial in identifying him,” said Suresh. The boy, hailing from Karimadom Colony, has seven cases pending against him in the Fort police station, including a theft case in March this year. Earlier, he was sent to the Observation Home in Poojappura, where juveniles who are undergoing trial or who are awaiting trial are lodged. “When we got his address, it was easy to identify him. He was on bail from the Observation Home,” the police said. The police produced both accused before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here. The boy was sent to Observation Home and Jayakumar was remanded in police custody.
