CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the Kavibharathi Vidyalaya, Tiruvotriyur to receive the tuition fees fixed by the Government Fee Fixation Committee and permit 14 of its students, who were expelled due to non-payment of fees fixed by the management to attend classes from April 11.Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar gave the direction while passing interim orders on a writ plea from S Vinayaga Moorthy, father of Keerthana, one of the 21 students expelled from the school.Granting a stay on the expulsion order dated March 31 last, the judge said that his order was passed in terms of the Right to Free and Compulsory Education of Children Act, 2009. Section 16 of the Act mandated that the schools should not issue compulsory TC to any student, studying up to 8th standard, the judge said. According to petitioners, their children were expelled for not paying the fees as demanded by the management. It was not complying with the orders of the Fee Fixation Committee passed on June 3 last year. The school sent through registered post the TC and expulsion order on March 31 last. Hence, the plea to quash the order.
