BHUBANESWAR: The number of unemployed persons, who have registered their names in different employment exchanges, has reached 10,22,364. Replying to a question from Pratap Chandra Sarangi (Ind) in the Assembly in this regard, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said while 30,13,06 girls have registered their names in different employment exchanges, the number of boys according to the live registers is 74,15,61. These include 15,86,60 Scheduled Tribes, 15,87,44 Scheduled Castes, 11,86,08 backward class persons and 5,81,30 from minority communities. The Chief Minister said 9,19,915 persons, who have their names in the registers, are highly educated. Naveen said the State Employment Mission (SEM) organises vocational training programmes by coordinating with different development departments for employment, self-employment and vocational training of unemployed youths. Besides, the SEM also organises ‘recruitment melas’ in different districts to create employment opportunities for unemployed youths. He said ‘melas’ have been organised in Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Jeypore, Sundargarh and Ganjam districts where appointment letters were given to 25,779 youths.
