PUDUCHERRY: AIADMK State Secretary and MLA A Anbazhagan on Friday alleged that the lock out at Regency Ceramics Limited in Yanam was a pre-planned move to convert it into a medical college. He told reporters that already the proprietor of the company had obtained approval from the Puducherry government during the previous tenure of N Rangasamy as chief minister for setting up a medical college. They now plan to close down the factory using violence as an excuse, jeopardising the livelihood of around 1,500 workers, said Anbazhagan.Stating that Chief Minister Rangasamy has not taken any steps to resolve the crisis, he said instead of posting an IAS officer as regional administrator, the government has posted a Puducherry Civil Services (PCS) officer, ignoring the plea of several political parties, including AIADMK. He also was critical of the L-G who was not in station  despite problems in Yanam. Anbazahgan deplored that despite the petition by AIADMK seeking his intervention for restoration of normalcy in Yanam and seeking a judicial inquiry, there had been no response.Anbazhagan alleged that due to police excess and politically-motivated actions, over 30 per cent of the population has fled from the region. The government was yet to announce solatium to family of the deceased trade union leader Murali Mohan. The AIADMK leader threatened to launch an agitation against the government if the disbursement of cyclone relief was not effected in a week. He said that despite the passage of 25 days since the announcement, the relief has not reached fishermen, farmers, people whose houses has been damaged. Meanwhile a fact finding team of AIADMK led by its state Secretary A Anbazhagan and other party functionaries left for Yanam to find  the actual reasons for the violence, rioting, firing. The report would be submitted to  Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh.
