The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that heatwave conditions are expected to ease over East India and South Peninsular India from May 7 onwards.
The weather department has forecasted that several Indian states can expect relief from the scorching temperatures between May 5 and 9.
Rainfall predictions
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, is likely to continue over Northeast India until May 7. Cyclonic circulations in Assam and Bihar, along with strong southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, contribute to this weather pattern.
Over the next seven days, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura can expect fairly widespread to moderate rainfall, along with isolated thunderstorms and lightning.
For Bengaluru, the IMD has predicted a hot and sunny day for May 7 a day after the city experienced heavy rains. Dry weather and continued heatwave conditions are anticipated, with temperatures reaching as high as 38.8°C during the day. However, a chance of light to moderate rain and thundershowers towards the end of the day has been forecasted.
Fresh Heatwave Spell
A new heatwave spell is expected over Western India, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, and western Madhya Pradesh, for the next five days.
The IMD forecasts heatwave conditions in Gujarat until May 11.
On May 7, heatwave conditions are likely in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka. Rajasthan may experience heatwave conditions until May 10, while Madhya Pradesh may see them from May 8 to May 10.
The IMD has also predicted that hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail in isolated pockets over Kerala, Mahe and Coastal Karnataka during the next 3 days.
