Residents agitate for safe houses

PUDUCHERRY: The residents of Ramji Nagar staged a road roko, on Tuesday, protesting the dilapidated condition of the group houses in the area.  The agitation followed injury to a three-year-old girl, Trisha when a portion of the ceiling in her home fell on her. The residents took to the road and staged a demonstration blocking the traffic to the Villupuram side for nearly four hours. Officials held talks with them. But the protestors refused to relent.Welfare Minister Rajavelu minister, who arrived later pacified them, saying that the government had already announced in the last budget a plan to reconstruct the houses. They withdrew after he assured them of action in this regard.
