Revenue department staff call off hunger strike

KOCHI: The hunger strike that was launched by the Kerala Revenue Department Staff Association and joint associations to protest against the transfer of 120 officials in the Revenue Department was called off on Sunday after District Collector P I Sheikh Pareeth assured them that the matter would be reconsidered at the earliest. “Though the collector gave us an assurance, we are a bit apprehensive about the result. We have certain demands. Women employees should not be transferred to faraway places, compassionate grounds have to be taken into consideration. Employees who have not even completed six months are being transferred, which has to be repealed,’’ said G Motilal, president, Kerala Revenue Department Staff Association, said.
