BANGALORE: All the four candidates for the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka - Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha K Rahman Khan (Congress), former Lok Sabha member Basavaraj Patil Sedam and former IAS officer R Ramakrishna (both BJP) and Rajeev Chandrashekhar (Independent) were elected unopposed to the Upper House of the Parliament. Legislative Assembly Secretary Omprakash, who is also Returning Officer for the biennial elections, announced the same here on Thursday.There were only four nominees in the fray after the withdrawal of the candidature by the BJP rebel B J Puttaswamy on Wednesday; the nominations of two other independent candidates were rejected by the returning officer.While for Rahman Khan it is a record fourth consecutive entry to the RS, it is the second such for Rajeev Chandrashekar.For both the BJP candidates, however, it is their maiden entry to the Rajya Sabha.Reacting to his getting re-elected, Rajeev Chandrashekhar said: “I am grateful for the support of the political parties of Karnataka. I am especially grateful to the JD(S).” He added that he will work hard to serve the public.
