Colombo: Akhil Kumar added another gold medal to India's kitty in the boxing competition at the South Asian Games on Tuesday.
In an electrifying atmosphere, Akhil Kumar pipped Abid Ali Baloch of Pakistan 26:25 in the 54kg bantamweight category to win the yellow metal.
The Indian got a lot of crowd support in the match, which was ridden with controversy on the grounds of referring.
However, Sanjay Kishan Kolte managed a silver in 48 kg lightweight category as he went down to Mohammed Nissar of Pakistan 20:23 in a close fight for the gold medal.
In 51 kg fly weight category, Karim won a gold for Pakistan beating B Harsha Kamar of Sri Lanka. Karim garnered 23 points against Kamar's 17 to script a comfortable victory.
In the 57kg category, India's Anthresh Lalit Lakra had to settle for silver when he was beaten by Asian Games gold medallist Mehrullah Lasih of Pakistan 26-7 in the final.
Lasih also won the silver medal at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
Jai Bhagwan had to be content with second place in the 60 kg lightweight category, where he was beaten 21-19 by Pakistan's Syed Asghar Ali.
India were, however, upstaged in women's 50m rifle prone, where host nation's Nilmini Illangarathna picked up the gold with a score of 588 out of a possible 600.
Meena managed 584 with a series of 97, 100, 99, 97, 95 and 96.
But the discipline that really put the brakes on India's golden run was boxing where they managed to win only one of the title fights.
Akhil Kumar beat Pakistan's Ali Baloch in an electrifying 54 kg bantamweight bout, which finished 26-25 in the Indian's favour.
