THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The dust around the project of the SAI sub-centre in the city does not seem to settle down. Three days after G Kishore, Regional Director, Sports Authority of India (SAI), denied the allotment of a sub-centre to the city, a document in possession of City Express shows that  Thiruvananthapuram is also in the list of the proposed sub-centres.The document, the minutes of the governing body meeting of SAI held in 2008, lists out various proposals for the setting up of sub-centres in different parts of the country. The meeting had directed the chairman of the governing body to propose the setting up of the sub-centres. Accordingly, six sub-centres were proposed in Guwahati, Lucknow, Ranchi, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai and Chandigarh. Except Ranchi and Thiruvananthapuram, work on all the other proposed sub-centres is nearing completion. The meeting had discussed various reasons for the proposal of additional sub-centres, mainly that the distribution of states under the various regional centres was done way back in 1987. The proposal of sub-centres was mooted pointing out how the working of SAI had increased manifold and the number of operational schemes had also likewise multiplied. The sub-centres were proposed to facilitate the implementation of various schemes and their effective monitoring. After the meeting, the members had authorised the chairman of the governing body to propose the places where sub-centres can be set up, following which the list of six places was published.Earlier, the SAI Regional Director had said that SAI had never even considered Kerala for the setting up of a sub-centre. Responding to a City Express report on the delay in implementing the project of the sub-centre, he had said that the entire project had been misinterpreted and that SAI had only advocated the setting up of a training centre and expansion of LNCPE campus. The denial by the Regional Director had come as a surprise for many SAI officials who have been closely associated with the same project. "The document clearly shows how Thiruvananthapuram was also included in the list of proposed sub-centres. We are still wondering how all of a sudden the city disappeared from the scheme of things,’’ said a SAI official.According to the project, the sub-centre was to be set up on the ten acres of land adjacent to the LNCPE campus. The centre was envisaged to come up with adequate additions to the existing facilities at LNCPE.
