Sale of red sanders: HC asked Shankar Rao to show proof

The High Court on Monday directed former minister and Secunderabad Cantonment MLA P Shankar Rao to file an affidavit with full particulars on the alleged sale of red sanders wood by the government at a throwaway price.

Dealing with a public interest petition filed by Shankar Rao, a division bench comprising acting chief justice PC Ghose and justice Vilas V Afzulpurkar asked the petitioner’s counsel to submit full particulars to substantiate his charges levelled against the respondents on the issue. “Any one can make allegations against others without evidence or documents. You have to file an affidavit having full particulars within two weeks to substantiate your allegations on the issue,” the bench said.

Advocate-general A Sudarshan Reddy pointed out that there were no details or particulars in the affidavit earlier filed by the petitioner. The government was ready to sell the wood at a price of ` 20 lakh per tonne as was alleged by the petitioner, he added.

Shankar Rao, in his petition, requested the court to direct the CBI to conduct aN investigation into the sale of red sanders wood by the government without inviting global tenders. He alleged that the government authorities concerned have entered into a criminal conspiracy for sale of wood at a throwaway price.
