DHENKANAL: Sanchar Marg _ the approach road to Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) _ is dilapidated. The road that showed the path to success for many a journalist today cries for attention.A deadly accident last week, involving 10 non-Odia students of the institute, sparked resentment against IIMC authorities as the road starts from the institute premises and connects the main road with the bus stand. A slope on the road, cut out from a mountain, is detrimental to the commuters. Laid by IIMC 10 years ago, it was not handed over to any agency for repair and renovation. The road is the only link to Dhenkanal Science Centre and office of Low Power Transmitter (LPT) office under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. As many as 139 accidents have taken place on the road in five years on the Sanchar Marg, most of the victims are cyclists and children on way to the Science Centre. The accidents, however, go unreported, locals said. At present, the road is non-motorable. Sources said though the Central Government had sanctioned funds for the Sanchar Marg’s repair, it was allegedly delayed by the executing agency concerned claiming that the funds were inadequate. IIMC officials declined comment but admitted to the poor condition of the road.
