Sandalwood case: Key accused nabbed

KOCHI: In a major breakthrough, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Sunday arrested the key accused in the red sandalwood smuggling case, in which a container was seized from Vallarpadam International Container Transhipment Terminal here on Friday.Anil Kumar, the owner of the container was arrested from a luxury hotel in Coimbatore by a DRI team from Kochi. The team seized another 10 tonnes of red sandalwood worth Rs1 crore from Anil’s godown in Coimbatore. He is accused in similar cases in Kochi and Mangalore. Anil was supplying red sandalwood to a syndicate based in Dubai for the last few months.
