New Delhi: Sania Mirza's fluctuating ranking remained steady at 40th in the latest WTA rating list while the Indian was busy serving her country in the Fed Cup tournament at Seoul, Korea.
The list of rankings released last week also had Sania Mirza at 40.
While she had made rave reviews when she suddenly broke into the top 50 almost eight months ago, Sania hasn’t been able to make any major inroads in singles so far this year.
Sania had become the first Indian since Ramesh Krishnan to be ranked inside the top 50 players in the world.
Her ranking in the women’s circuit had risen to 32 a few months ago, her personal best. But her performance of late has been quite indifferent in the singles.
Amelie Mauresmo from France stayed at the top of the heap while Belgian Kim Clijsters, and Russian sensation Maria Sharapova were second and third placed respectively.
Sania will rest this week, as the action on the WTA tour circuit will resume on May 1.
