BANGALORE: Passing messages on time to the police control room helped the city police to crack two cases, including a kidnap case. On December 17 last year, one Lohith, called the control room in the wee hours and informed that his friend Vinay was kidnapped and the abductors were demanding a ransom of Rs 50,000 for his release. The kidnappers had asked him to hand over the money at Leela Palace Hotel. Woman police constable S R Rashmi, who was on duty, received the message and passed it on to the police stations concerned. The Indiranagar police were alerted and they swung into action. Five abductors were arrested and the victim was rescued within a few minutes after the police received the message. In other incident on February 10, one Vasanthi Bai informed South Division Control Room that she had lost her purse which had two gold bangles, two gold chains, a cash Rs 5,000 and a mobile phone in an autorickshaw. She informed the auto’s registration number and based on that, constables Basavaraju and Vasudevachar informed the matter to Adugodi police. Within hours, the police traced the autorickshaw and recovered the valuables lost.Speaking at a press conference, City Police Commissioner  B G Jyothiprakash Mirji appealed  to the public to pass on any message to the control room immediately. “If we get the information at the earliest, we can perform better and pin down on the criminals soon. Time is very crucial in some cases and it would be very helpful to the victim and the police as well,” he stated.
