KAKINADA: Fire broke out in Dr Narendra Singh in the deep water port (DWP) on Wednesday night.Fire tenders of the port rushed to the vessel and started firefighting operation.It took about three hours for the fire services personnel to extinguish the flames.No casualties were reported.Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) leased the vessel to Eastern Offshore Asset (EOA) of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) The ship came to the deep water port to transport some material. Some furniture and other material were gutted in the mishap. But the ship engine is intact. The total loss is estimated at more than Rs. 1 crore. Speaking to Express, DWP chief executive officer Prasad said the director- general of shipping and ONGC were informed about the fire mishap. The incident might have occurred due to negligence of staff. Ships of various companies come to the deep water port for loading and unloading. The port authorities are in no way concerned with the fire mishap.
