New Delhi: While Google's much-lauded Chromecast dongle shows no signs of being officially available in India (though it can still be brought from online shopping sites such as eBay.in at a premium), Snapdeal has unveiled a similar device called Teewe under its Launchpad initiative.
Quite like the Google Chromecast, Teewe, priced at Rs 1,999, will allow users to stream media wirelessly via a smartphone app to their televisions. It is currently open for pre-orders with a release date of September 6.
Teewe, a media streaming dongle, has been created to extend the connected home entertainment experience for the next generation, Snapdeal said in a statement.
Teewe connects with a television through an HDMI port and connects a smartphone or PC to the TV over the local WiFi network and can play online content as well as stored media.
The device has been developed by Bangalore-based MangoMan Consumer Electronics and Teewe is the company's flagship product.
Snapdeal had unveiled Launchpad in April offering a platform for innovators and inventors across the country to promote and sell their products. Under the first edition of Launchpad, the company has already launched a smartphone and a sports cam.
"Teewe is a new age product which will enable customers to play YouTube videos, files residing on their phones or laptop and cast them all on the biggest screen at home with amazing ease," Tony Navin, senior VP electronics and home at Snapdeal, said.
