New Delhi: One of India's best known social worker and Magsaysay award winner Baba Amte turned 93 on Tuesday.
Baba Amte, whose real name is Murlidhar Devidas Amte, was born on December 26, 1914, in Hinganghat (Wardha district) in Maharashtra.
Amte's birthday was celebrated with simplicity at Anandwan, where he has devoted his life to the care and rehabilitation of leprosy patients.
Along with his wife Sadhna Amte, Baba Amte planted saplings at Anandwan to mark the occasion.
For his great service to humanity, the India government on many occasions has awarded Amte.
Amte has received the Padma Shree (1971), Padma Vibhushan (1986), Welfare of the Disabled (1986), Gandhi Peace Prize (1999) and Dr Ambedkar International Award for Social Change (1999).
