CHENNAI: A new CBSE day school catering to children residing in Tiruvanmiyur, Taramani, OMR, ECR, Tambaram, Chromepet and other areas of south Chennai has been launched by the St John’s group of institutions here on Thursday. Announcing the launch of St John’s Public School, educationist Dr R Kishore Kumar, team leader of the institution, said that the school would cater to an area which has a largely unorganised people. Located at the junction of Medavakkam and Sholinganallur, the school will follow CBSE curriculum, and have classes from pre-KG to standard 12.“The school will be developed in three phases: pre-KG to standard eight in the first year, std IX and 11 in the second year and classes 10 and 12 in the third year,” said Dr Kumar. He said the school would have a built up area of 1.25 lakh square feet on a 2 -acre campus, with provisions for music school, dance school, cricket and sports facilities, senior and junior libraries, a junior science laboratory, a mathematics lab and an art studio.The classrooms would be well-ventilated, and the need for air-conditioning is moot, said Dr Kumar. “I would not claim that we are an eco or green school, but the campus will have plenty of free space and greenery for the children to enjoy,” he said. He also announced full scholarships: three to children of police personnel, and three to children of journalists. .Vice Chancellor of Anna University Dr P Mannar Jawahar launched the school website www.sjps.edu.in, and wished all success to the new venture. Admission formalities for the academic year 2012-2013 would begin on March 2.
