BHUBANESWAR: The St Xavier’s High School, Khandagiri, which was closed sine die following internal disputes on April 2 is likely to re-open on Monday. The management, teachers and parents had a meeting with the local police on Wednesday as the indefinite closure had left the students’ future uncertain. The police are believed to have advised the school authorities to sort out the matter among them and re-open the school on Monday. The school is embroiled in a controversy after administrator of the school Vivek Bhuriya was arrested by the Mahila Police following a complaint of sexual harassment by a lady teacher on March 31. However, as soon as the news of Bhuriya’s arrest broke, a large group of teachers were united in their protest against the school principal claiming that principal Rosina Mohanty was behind the whole incident and that Bhuriya was framed. With protests underway, the school management closed the campus sine die. Angry parents protested against the illegal closure at the Khandagiri police station seeking its intervention. The teachers had decided in a meeting on Monday night that they would continue to agitate, and if necessary, put in their papers, till the principal resigned. With the indefinite closure casting a spell of uncertainty on the future of hundreds of students, the police asked the chairperson of the management committee to come to Bhubaneswar and sort out the matter.
