Start work on plastic roads

CHENNAI: The Corporation on Tuesday directed the contractors, who have got orders for laying roads, to begin work immediately.According to official sources, a total number of 118 bus route roads (BRR) are being taken up now, for which tenders have already been settled and work orders issued. Apart from this, as orders for 1,492 interior roads have also been sanctioned for relaying and repairs, all  contractors have been directed to begin the work immediately, a release from Ripon Building said. On Monday, Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy, along with Corporation Commissioner PWC Davidar, inspected plastic road-laying works at Valluvar Kottam High Road and Nelson Manickam Road.According to the officials, the work on the first stretch of plastic road on a bus route would be completed on January 31. The civic body will complete re-laying of 121 plastic roads on 80 km long bus routes at a cost `51.7 crore in three months.
