BIDAR: The people of Aurad taluk of Bidar district, who was used to hearing baragaala or akaala, has been hearing the word Sakaal from the beginning of March. Aurad taluk, which is on the Maharastra and Andhra Pradesh border, was under the influence of the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti and Naxalites of Andhra Pradesh earlier.Due to the topographic conditions and influence of Marathi and Telugu, the officials of Karnataka were unable to give much attention to Aurad taluk and so the pendency of applications for various developmental schemes was high. But that has changed now as the Karnataka Government has introduced the Sakaal Scheme on a pilot basis in four taluks, including Aurad.Aurad was the lone taluk in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region which was covered under Sakaal scheme, which intends to complete the works of the people in the stipulated time.If the official concerned fails to do the work in the stipulated time, he will be made accountable, and if the aggrieved party appeals before the appropriate authority, the concerned official will have to pay a fine of `20/- per day till the disposal of the application.Officials cannot reject the applications on any grounds under this scheme as they have to receive the filled applications along with necessary documents and they have to give a 15-digit registration number to the applicant.Under this scheme, the officials are expected to inform the applicant the status of the application through SMS to applicant’s mobile.Operator of Nemmadi Kendra of Aurad, Prakash, said the system would not accept applications which did not have ration card numbers.‘SAKAAL’ IN STATE FROM APRIL 2GULBARGA: The state government is all set to introduce ‘Sakaal’ scheme throughout the state from April 2, as it was implemented on a pilot basis in Aurad in Bidar, Puttur in Dakshina Kannada, Chitradurga and Dharwad, and Jayanagar in Bangalore from March 1.It has received tremendous response, said Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Secretary Shalini Rajanish, who is in charge of its implementation. She told Express that under this scheme, 392 out of 491 applications received in Puttur taluk were disposed. In Dharwad, 1,494 out of 1,949 applications disposed, in Chitradurga, 1,939 out of 2,536 were disposed and in Aurad, 794 out of 1,387 were disposed till March 24.
