President A P J Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh strongly condemned the killing of Suryanarayan.

New Delhi: Murdered engineer Suryanarayana had voluntarily dispensed his security cover 15 minutes before he was kidnapped by Taliban militia, according to sources.

The body of the 41-year-old Suryanarayana was found by a police patrol on Sunday morning in Hassan Karez area in southern Zabul province where he had been kidnapped two days ago along with his Afghan driver.

Meanwhile, President APJ Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday led an outraged nation in strongly condemning the barbaric killing of Indian engineer K Suryanarayana in Afghanistan by Taliban militia.

Expressing his sympathy with the bereaved family, Kalam said, “Such an act is highly condemnable.” He also assured them all assistance, President's Press Scretary S M Khan said.

Condemning the killing, Singh asked the nation to be united in its fight against terrorism.

"The Prime Minister has condemned the Taliban's inhuman act of killing an innocent Indian civilian," Singh's Media Advisor Sanjaya Baru said.

Singh spoke to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy to convey his condolences to the family and offered them all possible help.

Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai has condemned the killing of Suryanarayana and blamed "enemies of Afghanistan" for the incident.

"The death of the Indian engineer who was working for the reconstruction of Afghanistan is no doubt the work of enemies of Afghanistan," Karzai said.

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee also condemned the "heinous act of terrorism" and expressed condolences to the family of the bereaved.

Suryanarayana was a communications engineer working with a Bahraini firm which was contracted by Afghani mobile phone company Roshan to help expand its network.

Taliban militia claimed they killed Suryanarayana after he tried to escape. They had earlier issued a threat asking all Indians to leave Afghanistan by 1900 hrs IST on Sunday or the hostage would be executed.
