New Delhi: After reports that Lalit Modi sought the appointment of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's husband Swaraj Kaushal as a director in a firm headed by his father KK Modi, the former Indian Premier league chief's father has issued a clarification.
KK Modi, who is the CMD Indofil industries, said that there was no decision taken on the proposal to appoint Swaraj Kaushal as the Director. "Mr Modi did not give him power but proposal to appoint Swaraj Kaushal as director. Later Lalit Modi withdrew so the board never considered the request. There was no decision taken finally. We never spoke to Swaraj Kaushal and the board never asked us to speak to him," he said.
In an email dated April 15, 2015 sent by Lalit Modi to a company called Indofil Industry which is owned by his father, Lalit Modi had sought the appointment of Sushma Swaraj's husband as the alternate director of the company. However, Swaraj Kaushal did not accept the appointment.
Swaraj Kaushal and daughter his daughter Bansuri who are Lalit Modi's legal counsels also advised him on his immigration plea. The letter was subsequently withdrawn on April 23.
Lalit Modi is one of the board of directors of Indifil industries. Indofil Industries Limited belongs to the renowned KK Modi group of companies. The company was established over 50 years ago is headquartered in Mumbai.
