HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Legislature Party on Thursday urged the state government to cancel the tenders relating to Polavaram project alleging several irregularities took place while finalising the tenders. TDP MLAs Tummala Nageswara Rao, Errabelli Dayakara Rao, Revanth Reddy and M Narasimhulu submitted a memorandum to the principal secretary, irrigation and CAD department Shailendra Kumar Joshi. The process of finalising the tenders went beyond the stipulated time. The last date for tenders was not extended though some leading companies have requested that they may be given some more time to come to grips with the volume of work and estimations, the memorandum said.“This is nothing but a preconceived move to eliminate reputed companies from the bidding competition. The meeting of committee of chief engineers was not held as per schedule and the committee has allegedly shortlisted only three companies after technical bid but after the intervention by higher authorities another consortium led by Southern Engineering Works was also included though it lacks the requisite technical qualification. And the new included consortium was adjusted as L-1 and awarded the work,’’ T Nageswara Rao said. The selection of SEW-led consortium was contrary to the tender conditions specifying work experience which none of the consortium members possessed. The certificate of experience in erecting hydraulic hoist was obtained by SEW from a private organisation which did not merit consideration, the memorandum said.
