HYDERABAD: Unidentified persons dug up the premises of a temple at Malkaram village in Shamshabad on the city outskirts to try find if there was any treasure hidden underground. However, their attempt failed as they could not find any treasure. This incident comes to light after a treasure trove was unearthed in the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Kerala. Police said the temple was constructed three years ago. They confirmed that there was no treasure was hidden in it. Two persons, Yadaiah and Ananta Reddy, were reportedly held by the police after sniffer dogs tracked them. According to Shamshabad assistant commissioner of police Ch Srinivas, thieves jumped over the iron fencing and entered the premises. With a crowbar available in the temple premises, they dug up the Shiva Lingam and the idol of Nandi in the premises. Finding no treasure, the they fled. However, no valuables were stolen from the temple.The damage done to the idols came to light on Tuesday morning when the temple priest, Sri Shyamlal, came to the temple around 6.30 a.m and alterted the local leaders and Sarpanch, who later alerted the police.Sniffer dogs tracked them, went to a place near the temple where the duo regularly stand in search of work. Police also found a couple of Beedi packets near the temple. "The duo also smoke the same brand of beedi and we are questioning them,''  police said.  Police suspected that the miscreants wanted to steal the ‘Panchalohas' consisting of pieces of gold, silver, brass, copper and iron which were under the idol.
