BANGALORE: Both Sankey tank and Ulsoor lakes, require some more attention to be paid to them. Everyday thousands of visitors and fitness enthusiasts come to these lakes. The Sankey tank bund is collapsing day by day due to the faulty work from the Bruhat Bangalore Mahahanagara Palike. Those who visit the lake, are harbouring the fear that the wall may collapse any day. Subramaniam SG, a retired officer of the Education Department said, “The condition of the bund worries me. The officials need to look into the matter before an accident takes place.”Speaking about the Sankey tank bund footpath, Vijayalakshmi a resident of Malleswaram said, “There are many spots on the footpath that are either covered with mud or are missing the slabs. Walking during a slight spell also becomes difficult.”Ulsoor lakeIn Ulsoor lake the clumps of water Hyacinth are clogging the lake. Two months ago the lake was cleared off the weed. However, the weeds that were removed from the lake were carelessly dumped over the bund. As a result. with the rains, the weed ends up finding its way back into the lake. Had the concerned authorities taken appropriate measure while removing the weeds from the lake, the given situation could have been avoided.Another cause for worry are that the daily wage workers who clean the lake are also adding to the filth in the lake. The litter that is removed from the lake is dumped by the sides. The same workers push the filth back into the lake in order to make space for themselves to sit. There by rendering all their efforts to clean the place, useless. The BBMP chief engineer for lakes, Sathish said, “We have brought the issue to the notice of the concerned authorities. We have also recommended that there should be planting work for the Sankey tank bund. The BBMP has accepted this proposal. The work will begin as soon as the funds are released.”
