MADURAI: Brinda Karat wondered how a person who was accused of child abuse was able to escape arrest for over 45 days during the regime of AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa. She made this sharp remark in her conversation with Additional Superintendent of Police (ADSP) Mayilvaganan during a telephonic conversation.As the local Inspector had no explanation on as why the victims were being investigated during the wee hours based on a false complaint, Brinda Karat inquired whether the ADSP could come to the spot or she could come and visit him.In response, the ADSP assured that he would be sending two DSPs Ravichandran and Pandi to the spot.Brinda Karat explained the ADSP the plight of the victims in the village and sought an explanation.ADSP Mayilvaganan replied that the police personnel who investigated the victims were either ignorant or unaware of the laws that had to be followed during the investigation.A surprised Brinda Karat remarked that police officials cannot be ignorant or unaware of the laws and said that it was purposefully done to intimidate the victims.
