Three associates of a notorious criminal Chinoo Pandit were killed and five others injured on Tuesday when a rival gang of criminals opened fire on them outside Roorkee sub jail in Haridwar district, police said.
The clash took place just outside the gate of the sub jail at around 5 pm when Chinoo was coming out of the prison after being released on bail, Circle Officer Lalit Mohan Upreti said.
The moment Chinoo came out of the jail to join his aides waiting outside, criminals of a rival gang hiding nearby opened indiscriminate fire on them, killing three of his associates on the spot, the CO said.
Five persons including Chinoo's brother Rajiv Sharma alias Monu who were injured in the firing have been admitted to a hospital, he said.
The deceased have been identified as Raman Marwah, Tarun Tyagi, and Lokendra Rathi.
Chinoo Pandit is an accused in at least a dozen cases including that of murder in western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
