KOCHI: Thrikkakara Municipality got its second biowaste electricity generation plant on Friday.The plant installed in the town shopping complex was inaugurated by Benny Behnan, MLA while municipal chairman P I Muhammad Ali presided over the function.The plant was completed with the assistance of Biotech, Trivandrum. The cost of the project is Rs 16.80 lakh.The plant can treat 500 kg bio waste and waste water and also could generate electricity that could be used for lighting 50 CF Lamps installed in the shopping complex and nearby areas. Arrangements have also been made to reuse the water coming out of the plant which is diverted to operate the plant. This will prevent the flow of waste water, thereby keeping the premises clean.The plant was designed in such a way that the public could see the plant and make themselves aware of the process of waste treatment.As Biotech is recognised by the Ministry of Non-conventional Energy, this project got Rs 1.20 lakhs by way of subsidies. Two more similar projects are also being completed in the municipality.
