New Delhi: Union Law Minister H R Bharadwaj has promised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi that Tamil Nadu's request for a Presidential review of its demand for use of Tamil in the Madras High Court will be accelerated.
The Law Minister's assurance follows a letter by Karunanidhi to the Centre on Sunday.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister had objected after the Centre shot down the demand for use of Tamil as the official language in court.
Karunanidhi said the action was 'discriminatory' and that his request was justified as states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan were also using their official languages in their respective High Courts.
The Chief Minister also stated that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should obtain the President's consent for the proposal, which is based on a unanimous resolution in the Tanil Nadu state Assembly.
