THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: On December 10, Saturday, skywatchers would be treated to a total lunar eclipse, the second one of the year. Saturday’s celestial  show is special since the next total lunar eclipse that would be visible over India is six years away, in 2017.On Saturday, the moon would enter the penumbral shadow of the earth at 5.03 p m. Moonrise would be around 6.15 p m and by the time the lunar orb would be visible over the horizon, it would be in partialeclipse. Totality would last for 51 minutes from 7.36 p m to 8.27 p m.Maximum eclipse would be at 8.01 p m,  according to Arul Jerald Prakash, director, Kerala State Science and Technology Museum (KSSTM). The celestial show would come to an end at 9.48 p m. The eclipse would  be visible in its entirety across Asia and Australia. “We would be able to see another total lunar eclipse only on August 21, 2017. There would be partial eclipses in between, though,” Prakash said. A lunar eclipse occurs when the earth comes in between the sun and the moon, blocking the sun’s light from falling on the moon.
