KOCHI: A series of low intensity tremors were felt in parts of Idukki district in the wee hours of Saturday.Mild quakes were also reported from some parts of Kottayam district.Four tremors were reported to have occurred between 3.15 am and 5.49 am in Idukki. The first tremor had a magnitude of 3.2 in the Richter scale. Others were of magnitudes 1.4, 1.7 and 1, respectively.Idukki District Collector E Devadasan said that tremors were felt in Upputhara, Chappath, Valakode and Moolamattam. In Kottayam, tremors were felt in Erattupetta, Wagamon, Peringulam and Pathampuzha.No damage to property or injury to people was reported. The area had recorded as many as 21 mild quakes since January this year.The repeated tremors highlight the safety issue of the 116-year-old Mullaperiyar dam over which the politicians of the state are raising the heat.
