CHENNAI: A bus driver and conductor were killed in a freak accident near Chengelpet after a state-owned vehicle hit a stationary bus early on Thursday.Police said driver Henry of the stationary bus and conductor Thirumalai (40) of the other bus were killed in the accident.Police said the TNSTC express bus from Mannurgudi, was coming to Chennai when its front left tyre burst near Pazhaveli on the Chengelpet bypass at around 3 am. Around 20 passengers of that bus were sent away in another bus and driver Henry was walking to the back of vehicle to remove the spare tyre when another bus rammed into it. The other government bus was plying from T’Malai to Chennai and was driven by Amridhasamy (43). Police said the driver could not see the stationary vehicle, as it was misty. While Henry was run over, conductor Thirumalai (40), who was seated next Amridhasamy, was thrown away and killed on the spot, police said. Amridhasamy sustained fracture to his leg and was admitted to government hospital in Chengelpet. Police said they have registered a case and sent away the passengers from Tiruvannamalai in another vehicle.
