RAYAGADA: Senior Congress leader and former Minister Ramachandra Ulaka was cremated near Brahmin Sahi here on Monday. The cremation was delayed by a day after Ramachandra’s first wife’s son Shiv Shankar Ulaka alleged that the death was unnatural and filed an FIR alleging foul play. Police got a post-mortem done and handed over the body to family members on Monday morning. The body was kept in state at Congress Bhawan here for his followers and partymen to pay their last respects. The body was brought here from Bhubaneswar, where he breathed his last in the early hours of Sunday. His three sons Gouri Shankar, Umashankar and Saptagiri Ulaka from his three wives lit the pyre. Ramachandra’s younger brother Dambarudhar Ulaka, who is an MLA of Bissam Cuttack Assembly constituency in the district and scores of party workers, including DCC president Durga Panda, party functionaries Santosh Patra and Jhuna Panda were present. Koraput MP Jayram Pangi who visited the bereaved family said Ulaka worked for the betterment of tribals and is the man behind all the tribal schools that were set up before 1977. He is a person of deeds, Pangi said.
